Jorgensen Jabbers: October 2009

We had wanted to take a little trip this fall and had first thought of going to Jackson Hole for a long weekend, but quickly changed our minds after we realized we couldn't make the 5 hour drive with Dane. He doesn't love the car so much and lets us know quite loudly. He is getting better though and I was able to go on a few errands this week crying free! We decided to go to Eric's parent's house in Seal Beach, CA instead. It's a great place to visit. The weather is great and Grandma has everything we need, so we don't have to bring a port-a-crib, strollers, or even car seats. It makes traveling so much easier. We only had 2 large suitcases and a small carry-on size suitcase. All our carry-on bags were another story though. I got Megan her own backpack to put her things in though, so that helped (even though Eric or I carried it most of the time). We are still kind a zoo getting through security and definitely deserve to be in the "special needs/family" line. I really think it should be re-named to the "People with Too Much Crap" line, because let's be honest, that's who it is for. This is how we maneuver through the airport:

Megan thinks its fun to ride on the luggage and we don't have to wonder where she is. It's a win-win for sure!

We went to Disneyland the first day that we were there. It was almost 90 degrees that day and Megan was still getting over her cold. Not necessarily the best circumstances, but we got in for free, so we weren't complaining. We got in just as the park was opening and ran over the line to see the princesses. Megan is totally into all things princess and this is really the only way to see them for sure. The wait was over an hour long, so I waited while Eric took Megan on some rides and Eric's mom waited with Dane (who didn't take to nursing in public very well - there was lots of crying). I could tell that Megan still wasn't feeling well because she wasn't as excited as I thought she'd be to see Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty.

As you can see, she didn't even crack a smile. Well, she had just about had it and wanted to go back to Grandma's, so Hannah took the kids back home and Eric and I stayed in the park by ourselves. It was really a lot of fun. We were able to ride the big kid rides and spend some time together without the kids. It was a nice little break. That night, Megan threw up in her sleep, so I felt a little bad that I dragged her to Disneyland when she was sick. She asks to look at the pictures all the time of her and the princesses all the time though, so I guess it was worth it.

We met up with my sister in Newport one of the days and had a fun time going on the ferris wheel and had lunch with her. Megan had to sit by her at lunch and cracks up over my sister's text message notification on her phone - a cougar growling.

Grandma got out lots of fun toys for Megan while we were there and Megan spent hours playing outside. Our backyard is kind of lame. It has no shade and since our house faces east, the backyard gets pretty toasty in the afternoon. We've also had a big wasp problem this summer, so we haven't been in the backyard hardly at all this summer. Kind of sad, so it was really fun to play in Grandma's backyard.

I felt a little bad that we didn't make it on the carousel at Disneyland, so we found one in Long Beach. It was a fun little arcade on the beach and no one was there. Grandma was a good sport to ride with Megan.

Dane slept really well on our trip. In fact, he slept better there than he does at home. This was his favorite spot. He'd sleep there for at least 4 hours in one stretch once a day. It was fabulous!
