Sunny Scottsdale

Last Wednesday, Eric, Megan, and I flew to Scottsdale, AZ for a sales training conference that Eric was attending. Megan and I decided to tag along since Eric's boss (also named Eric) was bringing his wife, Hailey and their two kids, Adie and Max. Another reason for the trip was to see Eric's baby sister, Diana since she was due with her first baby the day before we got there. We lucked out and she actually had the baby on August 16, so we were able to see his sister, the baby, and Eric's mom since she was in town to help with the new baby. Added bonus about Grandma being there was she was able to watch Megan for us one of the nights so Eric and I could go to dinner with his boss and wife. It did get a little crazy though when we tried to call her to tell us to pick us up from the restaurant (she took Megan to the mall to walk around while we ate) and couldn't get a hold of her. Her cell phone ran out of batteries and it took about an hour and half before we were able to meet up again. It was a little stressful, but it all worked out in the end and makes for a funny story. Overall, it was a very relaxing trip with the majority of the time spent at the pool with Hailey and her kids. There are 5 pools at the hotel we stayed at and one of them was the best kiddie pool EVER!!! It was a zero entry pool and was shallow forever so I wasn't stressed the whole time about Megan drowning. I was able to finally finish a book that I've been trying (not very hard, though, I have to admit) to read for about a year now. Even though it was over 110 degrees each day, we had a really fun time!

Fun in the Sun

Over the last few weeks, we've been debating whether or not to take Megan up with us to Snowbird since she can't go on any of the rides and we knew she was going to miss at least one nap. Well, we made a last minute decision on Saturday and all three of us went. It wasn't quite as crazy as we had thought it would be, which was nice. We were even able to sneek her on the alpine slide (you're supposed to be at least 2 to ride it) so all three of us were able to go at the same time. Megan is my little thrill junkie and loved every minute of it. Eric and I had to take turns after that, but Megan really liked watching everyone zip by on the slide. There is also a zip-line at Snowbird. Eric went first while Megan and I waited about 30 minutes for him to go on it. She loved just running around on the grass and exploring. Then it was my turn and the line had grown. It took an hour. I don't even wait an hour for rides at Disneyland, but it was really fun and not as freaky as I thought it was going to be. The tram ride to the top of the runs at Snowbird was really fun too. Megan loved to be up by the window and feel the breeze. She kept saying, "wee". It was pretty cute. The view from the top was really amazing. It was well past nap-time at this point and we decided to go home before we had a total melt-down on our hands. Overall, a pretty successful and fun Saturday.

On Tuesday, Megan and I went to Thanksgiving Point's petting zoo, along with all other moms and their kids in Utah. All attractions at Thanksgiving Point are $2 on Tuesdays in August. We went with my friend Natalie and her two girls, Addie and Lizzie. We thought that it wouldn't be that crowded since it's the cheapest thing to do there, but no such luck. The line at the pony ride was way too long to wait in, but Megan really loved feeding the animals. She really loves animals on tv, but I wasn't sure how she'd react when they were real and up close. She couldn't get enough of it and giggled every time a goat licked her hand. Addie was bit by a goat the last time Natalie took her, so was a little more hesitant. We lucked out with the weather though, under 90 degrees! We were only there for a couple of hours, but the girls had a good time and again, we left before any melt-downs. I like to try to leave places before I have total chaos on my hands. So far, so good!

When it rains, it pours!

I think this movie accurately describes the events at our house last week. Does anyone else have a week when everything seems to be falling apart?! It all started on Monday when I had a plumber come over to finally fix our leaky kitchen sink. Then on Tuesday I took my car in for it's 60,000 mile service and oil change. Turns out that my brakes needed to be replaced too. That just about doubled our bill. Let's move ahead to Wednesday when our air conditioning stopped working on a 100 degree day. Luckily we have a window a/c unit in our bedroom, so Eric and I were ok. Megan's room was another story. We had her ceiling fan on and opened the window, but it was still a little warm. She woke up with curly hair, which means lots of sweating happened that night, poor thing. We were able to get someone to come out on Thursday and we didn't have to replace the whole unit, just the coil because it's too small to keep up with our condenser so the coil freezes and stops working because it doesn't have enough surface area. Well, while the a/c guy was checking out our furnace in the basement he saw that one of our hot water heaters was leaking. Yay! So I had to have the plumber come back to fix that. Could we have more repairs?! I think I need to rent this movie to feel a little better about our house, because right now I feel like ours is totally falling apart! On top of all that, I started to get a nasty cold on Friday and have the worst sore throat ever. After not sleeping for two nights in a row, I went to the doctor today and he gave me some antibiotics and lortab - my new best friend. My throat doesn't hurt as much, but I have no voice. Here's hoping that this week will be better than last week!
